Akosha, a Fraud with a Mask of Consumer Complaints

By: DebbyD | Nov 15, 2012 02:52 PM

Akosha approaches you with a fake assurance of doing everything to take your complaint to the consumer court. They charge you a minimum of Rs 500, as a ’nominal’ fee to do everything required until your problem is resolved. Beware!! They do nothing, they only draft 2 letters of complaint for you, that too very very badly drafted. That’s OK, they make you redraft it for yourself! And that’s it. You got to do all the running around after the letter is drafted. They very smartly tell you, "but sir, we never promised to go to consumer court, we only help you go there" - How? With 2 badly drafted, so-called legal letters??

You would see fancy reviews on Akosha site. All of them super-happy, "Akosha I am happy with your service" - Look carefully, they all wrote similar things, in identical style, and equally bad English. How’s that possible? Well, simple! They write their own reviews! Akosha employs this person (Chhotu I name him) to sit and write nice things about Akosha everyday! Believe it or not! Look again - you’d know what I am talking about.

Akosha, a bigger fraud than all those frauds that they claim to penalize! What a joke - India is great!

My story with Akosha - I approached Akosha, helpless, cheated by a Packer service, ripped off some amount of money. I didn’t have time and resources to approach a consumer court, and that’s where Akosha lays out its amazing beautiful business plan.

The man, Narendra Kumar, tells me they’ll do it all, "you just pay Rs 500 right now sir, I sent you the online link, after that we do everything, you only sit and watch those buggers go to jail". Wow, this is dream come true! Let’s go for it.

Three weeks later, the man emails me a draft of the legal letter in a word doc, and instructs me to take a print, sign is a couple of places, add a few annexures, and go to a local consumer court - "it won’t take more than 2 - 3 hours for the procedures sir, you’ll have to make a few photocopies only, and pay a nominal fee to a lawyer..". What did Akosha do, if I have to do all the running around?? Rs 500 to draft 2 badly drafted letters in broken Haryanwi English, and that’s all??

Beyond this point, I have tried contacting Akosha customer support several times. I have written to them on several occasions, but in vain. They never got back to me again. Their job is done, they got my money, Narendra Kumar’s monthly target is met, Chhotu’s salary is paid, consumer drama zindabaad!

I tried writing a review on Akosha site, to append to all the sugary appreciations, but to my shocking discovery and disbelief, there is absolutely no way to write a review on the site, even with a login! You can only read those honey-soaked reviews, no where to write! Wow!

The game plot cleared the mist in front of me, but wasn’t it too late a realization?

Well, in my case it was. I lost my money, and felt cheated a second time with the same issue, first by the Packers, and then by Akosha in the course of trusting them to resolve the first.

Pretty cool business model if you come to think of it. But nevertheless, my objective of writing about it on Mouthshut is to spread the awareness as far as I can, so that at least you, after reading this, won’t make the same mistake that I did.
